What is Our Prologue?

Our Prologue is a blog created by Emma Cam intended to showcase the different stories of various artists based in California. Whether they are in big industries or are still figuring things out, these people have a story to tell. This blog provides different experiences and perspectives. But to the audience, we hope that this blog also serves as encouragement for the audience to broaden their creative horizons.
In any industry, but specifically art-centered ones like acting, filmmaking, and more, there is a belief that art is only for the naturally talented and spoon-fed. We want to break the stigma that art is a waste of time and introduce the passion that comes from it. We hope that this blog helps the audience realize that all it takes is ambition and creativity, just as these artists learned.

Why is it so important?

Many teens in this generation have been primed by family members, friends, and society as a whole that art is a waste of time. They are being told that a successful life is through a stable job like business, STEM, and things in high demand. The stigma that art is useless pushes people away from their creative side and forces another interest onto them. To Our Prologue, we believe success is found through acts of passion. Yes, earning 6 figures is a form of success, but as long as the person is happy with what they have achieved, that is what is most important. This passion and ambition needed to be content can be found in artists around California. So through a series of 30-minute to 1-hour interviews, with diverse artists ranging from all parts of the Golden State shared their stories and the successes they've accomplished.

About the creator:

Hello, my name is Emma Cam I am a senior at Granada Hills Charter High School. I aspire to be a filmmaker or at least someone in the film industry. I like to dabble in photography and cinematography but I do not shy away from other mediums of art. I am a writer for my school's IB newspaper and a MOCA teen. I am someone who loves the way art tells a story, and my motto for life is: everyone has a story. This is why I have such an immense love for the way society functions; every driver, office worker, and even the people walking around have a story behind them. I am someone who is inspired by the artists around me. So as someone who grew up in an art desert, I aim to bring awareness to the beauty of the art world compared to its stigma that it is only for the ‘spoon fed’.
